The pages within this website are a compilation of links to aid me while I navigate the internet. I store these pages locally on my computers at home and work, and online at www.kdemont.com. This allows me to have a familiar navigation tool wherever I can access the internet.

If the data located here can help someone else find the information that they seek, that is wonderful. If not, there are millions of other sites out there.

I am a mechanical designer by trade. When I started working in 1977, drawing boards, drafting machines, pencils and erasers were the tools of the trade. My first drawings were done on paper, later transitioning to mylar. Triangles were calculated manually, or with a calculator based on trigonometry functions taken from tables in thick books filled with engineering data.

CAD/CAM was the topic of articles in the trade journals of the day, and the systems in operation, primitive by today's standards, seemed magical.

In late 1986 I learned to operate my first CAD system, CADAM. First two dimensional with interrelated views, then three dimensional wire-frame, and finally, primitive solid modeling. With the computer performing the mathematical calculations in the background, the designer was able to devote more energy to the creative side of a project.

Today I design using Pro Engineer, a state of the art Design tool. It is what I imagined designing with computers would be like many years ago. All of the design work is done as solid models that can be viewed on a computer screen as if the physical parts already existed. No longer do we need to visualize in our head what the actual parts look like based on flat drawings.
